Senior Analyst - South Zone - Lethbridge


Located in the South Zone (SZ), and reporting to the Director of Analytics for the SZ, the Senior Analyst is a key member of SZ Decision Support Teams. He/she works with operational, clinical Quality Improvement, and Business Advisory Service staff to measure, monitor and evaluate process and quality improvement initiatives. The Senior Analyst - South Zone provides data and information in response to complex queries from clients across all levels of the organization. The Senior Analyst consults with clients and team members (e.g., multi-disciplinary teams, physicians, nurses) to identify topics of interest for analysis. The Senior Analyst determines the appropriate methodology, data types and sources to answer stakeholders’ questions. He/she develops and implements analytic plans and presents findings to stakeholders. Data provided by the Senior Analyst supports operational and business planning, strategic and system planning and program planning and evaluation, research, as well as performance reporting for the South Zone. All Non-Union Exempt positions are being reviewed for possible inclusion in the AUPE General Support Services bargaining unit. If this position is impacted, the incumbent will be notified accordingly.


The Senior Analyst - South Zone works with multiple data assets (e.g., Waitlist data, admission/ discharge/ transfer data, continuing care data, emergency department data, scales and quality indicators, etc.) and data sources (e.g., abstract, registry, continuing care information systems, emergency department information systems, AHS DIMR data holdings, etc.) integrating data across multiple and complex data sources.

Required Qualifications:

Masters level education preferred, with a strong quantitative component in a related field (e.g., community health sciences, health economics, statistics, epidemiology, business administration, and information systems). Minimum five years of experience working with spreadsheets, databases and tools for querying, integrating, analyzing, interpreting, reporting, and disseminating data. Oracle, SQL or other comparable database query and report writing experience required. Equivalences of education and experience may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Knowledge of and ability to produce descriptive, inferential and predictive statistics. Ability to learn and understand clinical issues. Ability to translate data and findings into useful advice/information for clients. Proficiency in English, with strong verbal and written communication skills to produce reports and communicate with clients. Experience in screening, cleaning, linking, creating, modifying, validating, and analyzing large data sets in a statistical or database-management software package. Excellent interpersonal relations and demonstrated ability to work with others effectively in teams. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to become proficient with new software packages. Broad understanding of the health system. Ability to understand clinical issues and communicate effectively with clients across the organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in Health Care is an asset. Previous experience in developing and implementing performance measures is an asset. Experience with business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau) and statistical software applications an asset.
