About the role

IHE is recruiting a Senior Principal Health Economist / Senior Principal Modeler to provide leadership on projects and in the development of our program of work. The successful candidates will contribute to modelling and/or economic evaluations across a wide range of topics and technologies. The successful candidate will also be involved in the ongoing development of new work by contributing to or leading proposals for new or existing partners, or applications to research funding bodies.

The work may include, but not limited to:

  • Economic evaluations of health technology and interventions
  • Infectious disease and vaccine modelling and economics
  • Pre-market, early economic evaluations of non-drug technologies
  • Health technology assessment
  • Quantitative analysis of health system performance
  • Complex health system decision problems, straddling sectors
  • Economic evaluation of university-based trials
  • Health-focused real world evidence research

This is an opportunity to be part of a unique research program producing rigorous evidence to support decision making.  The candidate will be supported by a strong team including Health Economists, Project Coordinators, Evidence Synthesis Specialists, and Research Librarians.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on leadership within the health economics team
  • Mentor and coach junior staff
  • Design and conduct studies, evaluations
  • Document results in presentations and written reports, and journal manuscripts
  • Manage projects, timelines, budgets and project teams
  • Manage key stakeholder relationships, and liaise with stakeholders
  • Contribute to business development through writing proposals for existing and new project sponsors and grant opportunities
  • Contribute to the leadership and planning for the health economics team

Qualifications and Experience

  • Graduate degree in health economics, mathematics, or a related quantitative field
  • Demonstrated leadership on projects, methods development, and/or teams
  • Evidence of successful work in a multidisciplinary environment
  • More than 5 years post-degree experience working in an analytical role in health economics, health systems research and modeling, decision-analytic modeling, simulation, and optimization
  • Experience with R or packages such as STATA, SAS, or Matlab (or similar)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong inter-personal skills
  • Specialization by training or experience in health technology assessment, cost-effectiveness analyses or data science is an asset
  • Knowledge of Canadian health care systems is an asset
