This presentation summarizes research on specialist physician payment to date, including studies of fee code changes and different payment models in Alberta as well as a systematic review of specialist payment reforms. Methods used and implications for future specialist physician payment reforms were also discussed.

Amity Quinn profile pictureDr. Amity Quinn is a postdoctoral fellow in Health Economics with Dr. Braden Manns. Her research program focuses on the design and impact of health care payment models. She is currently studying the effect of salary-based specialist physician payment compared to fee-for-service payment on health care decisions and quality for Albertans with chronic disease. Dr. Quinn has been involved in local and national policy initiatives to improve how health care policymakers, organisations, and providers address the behavioral health and social needs of patients. Dr. Quinn has a PhD in Social Policy with a focus in health policy and health services research from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University and an A.B. in Community Health from Brown University.
